'Canes Aquire Willsie 9/5/05
The Carolina Hurricanes announced the aquirement of Brian Willsie today in return for two draft picks that haven't been named yet. They are believed to be late rounders though, as the Hurricanes continue to rebuild the next couple of seasons.
Ryan inSTAALed, the 'Canes GM, said, "Willsie is a hardworking guy and we are happy to aquire him. He should gel in perfectly with the Adams Family for a good Checking/Energy line for quite some time. We are also happy to announce that we got our 1st round pick back from St. Louis, but we did have to give up a couple of core guys in Kaberle and Stillman."
"We are also in trade talks with the Rangers about possibly bringing Petr Prucha here." stated inSTAALed. "We had a pretty solid deal worked out, but we need to renegotiate a bit."

Canes Aquire Prucha from Rangers
The Carolina announced a trade today sending Oleg Tverdovsky and two Draft Picks to the Rangers in exchange for Peter Prucha and a Draft Pick. General Manager, Ryan inSTAALed, announced the trade at a press conference this afternoon. "During the offseason last year we were happy to bring Oleg here from Russia, but we felt that our depth at forward was severely lacking, and Prucha should develop into a top guy for us in the future. He has an excellent scoring touch and may seem some time on the fourth line this season, but look for him to spend a good portion of the season in Lowell."
Carolina was picked to finish in the bottom 5 in the league, more specifically 30th, in the preseason rankings. They are rebuilding, so anything better than that would be a miracle.

'Canes Down Penguins in Season Opener 10/4/05
For a team that's rebuilding, Carolina sure beat the Penguins.
The final score was 3-2, but that doesn't tell the entire story. The game was controlled, for the most part, by the Hurricanes as they skated circles around an underprepared Penguins team.
Craig Adams opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second period, but that play was all Whitney. "You really got to give it up to Whitney on that one," said Adams in an interview after the game. "He drew two defenders and put a nasty spin move on one of their defenders before dishing it off to me in the slot. A peewee player could score from there with a net that wide open."
It would remain 1-0 until halfway through the third when Justin Williams got 2 chances from the slot after a John LeClair block.
The play of the game was the highlight reel goal by Erik Cole and Kevyn Adams on the penalty kill. Kevyn dished it off to Cole on the left side as he sprinted up ice. He dropped it off at the red line and Adams made a beautiful saucer pass over 2 defenders sticks and Cole absolutely faked out Fleury.
That goal would prove to be the game winner as the Penguins made a late rally back to come within one, but it was too little too late.
"It's very good to win your first game," coach Peter Laviolette said after the victory. "To come into their building and basically skate circles around them, that shows how we like to play the game. I'm quite impressed with the way we played tonight, and am hoping for more of the same as the season goes on."
